HOGWARTS IN LOVE: THE DRAMATIC, THE STRANGE, AND THE SCANDALOUS by Lady Howler
Who knew that February would be such a whirlwind? Our loyal readers will certainly be keen to catch up on all the goings on that the castle has had to offer in the past month - and not to fear! Lady Howler is here to keep you in the loop.
It won't be a surprise to know that the biggest talk of our little birds is the disastrous Valentine's Dance in the middle of the month. In true Hogwarts fashion, the punch was spiked with some delectable potion that sent half of the castle loopy in love with the other - but who could have known it would have been such the talk of the town that its effects are still being felt all the way into March? It seems like some of our fellow students had busy nights.
It's hard to forget the public spectacles: the Malfoy heir seemed to have a case of the Barbary - that is, he seemed to find himself a little too attractive. It seems unfortunate that while the rest of the school were in the throes of passionate teen romance stories, poor Scorpius managed to fall in love with himself. Still, this wasn't quite as dramatic a mess as our very own Peeves making a memorable scene with James Potter, or of the love triangles - quads - more? - that were happening among a gaggle of sixth and seventh years.
To break it down - a blonde revolutionary by the name of Weasley was followed around all night by the unassuming Evadne Fitzgerald and the party presence that is Andromeda Nott. Already Dominique Weasley had turned our heads when she'd turned up on the arm of Argus Barbary, but then to follow up with two more interested parties? She seemed at first to be the night's hot ticket. That was, until she chose to ignore all three of them for - wait for it - her close friend Charlotte Longbottom. Given Dominique's mysterious absence from classes the next day, we have to wonder if she really was as sick as she put on, or she just didn't want to face the crowds. You have to feel for Miles Fawcett-Vance too - the one time he plays away and takes out another girl, that girl still ends up obsessed with Dominique Weasley. He can't seem to get away.
But our line of punch victims doesn't seem to end there - the very same Charlotte Longbottom seemed to have caught the love bug too that evening, making some very forward advances on Nathaniel Nott. Granted we'd all been waiting for that to happen - but this is why we have to ask ourselves a big question. Was that the potion? Or were we just witness to Miss Longbottom taking advantage of some romantic chaos to make her move? We certainly haven't heard any reports confirming her drinking the punch, and even long after the party was done she was spotted by multiple people in and around the Slytherin Common Room. Busy night.
It was an equally busy night for Miss It-Girl, Cece Abercrombie. It was hard to miss her in her stunning ensemble on the arm of Jasper Kirke at the beginning of the night - but the fairytale ball didn't end up with her kissing a Prince Charming. There she had Francisco Krum falling her head-over-heels for her in a very public way. Which - again - we all knew Krum held a torch for her, so we have to ask how much of this night was punch-induced, and how much was exploiting the mayhem? Not only that but this meant him very obviously getting in the way of his own roommate's date. Bold move - and no doubt awkward for the Hufflepuff Common Room for the while after. We're not surprised she scuttled off without so much as a celebratory party insta. We also heard she had a very public fight with James Potter in the early hours. Not cute.
At least there was some kind of happy ending - #cecisco is the couple of the moment now. We love a gal who knows how to damage control her image after a disastrous night. She salvaged the embarrassment with the guy who was crushing her and whatever she argued about with James Potter has been very firmly been put behind her.
James Potter again though - that boy seemed to get around. From Peeves' public declaration to him, to a shouting match in the Hufflepuff dorms, to a party at Slytherin too? It very much seems like him and Charlotte Longbottom were the big players of the evening, and not in a particularly good way. But we suppose it seems fitting that they ended the night together: word has it that they were seen in a very amorous embrace outside of the after-party. Scandalous! Now that is a coupling that we did not see coming. Longpotter? Jarlotte? Whatever the couple name, we're living for the drama of it all. We can't say we're surprised Cece dropped Potter after that little affair.
And you thought the night ended when the teachers shut it down after a bizarrely charming dance from Christian Fraser and Baggy Michaels? You should know better by now that there's always more happening when you pay attention.
If only school sanctioned events were always so exciting.
As always: keep your ears open for me, Hogwarts, and you'll be hearing from me again soon.

Guess what I heard... What I saw!!! Nott was reading the edition in the Slytherin common room and ripped the page! I think because he has such a candle for Charlotte. He looked absolutely murderous. I'd watch out if I were Potter!
