Blaise Zabini and Pansy Parkinson were a turbulent pairing from the start. Messing around in their school years turned to actually making a pretty formidable team as a couple once they left school. They had their ups and downs and a lot of disagreements along the way, but they were right for each other in a lot of fundamental ways, and that was good enough to hold them together through the rough patches. Their three children were used to seeing them snapping at each other and grew accustomed to the mood changes in the manor from early on. It was just normal for mum to be pissed off with dad, or for dad to give mum a glare across the dinner table that shut her up. Neither Indi or her two older siblings were too bothered by it after so long.
Indi was the baby of the family, and she had a gentler soul when she was a baby. She would laugh easily, and be amused by the silliest of things. She was kind to her siblings and followed them around like a puppy, wanting to be like them and be included in everything they did. This didn't always happen, and she became easily upset when rejected, something which her mother tried to knock out of her, recognising her own sensitivity in little Indi. She didn't want her daughter growing up to be walked all over and hurt by people left, right, and center, so she was tough on her daughter, and Indi soon began to realise that crying over things like that wouldn't get her cuddles, it would only get her a brisk telling off from her mum. "Stop crying, Indara. You're stronger than that. Go and play."
And play she did. She was always an imaginative child, and had no trouble putting herself out there with other kids. She was also rather intuitive and gentle with others, until she was four and everything changed. Playing at a magical park was a normal event for the Zabini children. Their father took them one day in the autumn, and the pond was deep from the rain. A muggleborn girl around the same age as Indi fell in and began to panic, unable to swim. Indi immediately jumped in after her and pulled the girl to the edge of the pond, not thinking twice about helping her. "INDARA." Her father's voice was furious. Bystanders thought he was angry at her for jumping into the pond, but as soon as he dragged her aside, away from prying ears, she got the telling off of her life. "Don't you ever, EVER, risk your life for a filthy mudblood!" he shouted at her.
That was the beginning of the change in her. Indi's siblings had never had the urges to go against their parents teachings about blood purity and who was and was not to be associated with. Indi had always been young and gullible, kind and unable to see the difference between herself and the muggleborn girl in the pond. But after being roared at by her dad, she was too scared to go against him ever again, and so at the tender age of four years old, she began to harden. By the time she was eight she was thoroughly immersed into being an elitist, as much as it was an outdated viewpoint, her parents just couldn't let go of the way they had been raised themselves. It soon became second nature to her, the gentleness of her toddler years stamped out to be replaced by superiority and a belief that she was better than others, a cruelness emanating towards lesser blood types the older she got. Or so her parents thought. Indi had learned more than any other lesson, to be a good actress, and she hated what her parents wanted her to be, but she played the part to please them, even though it killed her inside to belittle muggles and throw harsh remarks about like she was royalty barking at peasants, it was what kept her mum and dad happy, and so she did it. Her kind, gentle heart suffering the blows regularly.
By the time she was old enough to attend Hogwarts, she had been groomed perfectly to make the right decisions on her own at the castle, to choose how to act and who to befriend, and she was sorted into Slytherin just like her siblings. She made friends of the right sort, and those friends quickly learned that her loving ways were not completely gone, for she adored her friends, and was innately kind and loving towards them. Everyone else met the mask she put on, the bitch, the party girl who wouldn't look twice at you if you were any less than pure. But that is who she was forced to become, and now in her sixth year, she is still scared to be any different, for a life of being rejected by her family is unthinkable for her. She hates the way she behaves, she hates the reputation that she has built for herself, and she hates not being able to be true to herself every day of her life. As if she has any other choice... She has her sights set on becoming a healer when she leaves school, because if she has to be so cruel to people on a daily basis, maybe helping sick and injured people will balance the scales until she can figure her life out and maybe one day shed the disguise she's forced to wear.
