That's a load of nonsense, but Sam believes it. He was pretty cute as a baby, lots of hair and huge dark eyes that could penetrate the soul and bad moods of anybody that looked his way. He was the first child born to Coraline and Victor Abbott, and was the image of his mother. When he was two he became a big brother, quite happy to have his new little sister, Hannah, to play with and keep him entertained. Sam's parents always struggled to keep him entertained, and he had the attention span of a butterfly from quite early on in life. He couldn't sit still, always bursting with energy, always rushing off mid-sentence to play a different game, always asking questions and then questioning your answers. His curiosity was endless, and so, when he got older, was his intelligence because of it. His ability to learn was incredible, and he would always thirst for more. More books, more adventures, more experiences, more travelling, more new friends, more pasta, more school. It was never enough for him, even when he got his Hogwarts letter. He was excited to get to go off and learn magic, but at the same time, he worried that h'd get bored spending seven years in the same castle doing the same lessons with the same kids. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, and his popularity soared thanks to his friendliness and his desire to befriend pretty much everyone just because he was nosy and curious and wanted to know. He always wanted to know. He was a whizz at lessons, but his professors always commented on how much better he would do if he concentrated a bit more, or if he handed in homework on time instead of a week late, or if he talked to his neighbours less. There was always something stopping him from giving lessons his all, but it didn't hinder him in the long run, and he graduated with incredible grades across the board. He was proud of himself, but more proud of the friendships he had formed, and the fact that people seemed to really think highly of him as a person, rather than looking at letters on a piece of parchment. He valued people's opinions of him much more than any grades, since it spoke of him as a person, and he always enjoyed a good ego boost. After graduation, Sam decided to travel. He learned new languages, and learned a lot from the women he encountered all over the world. He never stayed in one place for long, though, and left a string of broken hearts across the globe. He dabbled in different jobs. Journalism was a firm favourite of his, since it gave him room to switch from topic to topic and never seemed to get boring, though he didn't like the idea of having to stay in one country for so long just to keep his job with whatever paper that had hired him. His fun was cut short for a while, not long after his nineteenth birthday when he received an owl from his father telling him that his mother had been found dead. He swears his heart stopped in that moment, and you could hear it cracking in two. A slight dramatisation, but the feeling was there, and a heartbroken Sam rushed home to his dad and sister, feeling guilty for having flitted off and left them in a the middle of a war. Such was his nature, though, and they understood, Sam Abbott couldn't be expected to be held down in one place for too long, it was fine, he had to live his life. Yet despite all of these attempts to comfort him, he did feel bad, and he stayed for a good two years after that, wanting to make sure that his little sister was okay, and that nobody else he loved died while he was off gallivanting all over the place. It killed him to stay, to be so mundane and monotonous, but he was devoted enough to his kin to do right by them, and they all gained a lot of respect for him over that two year period, knowing how much it troubled him to be chained to England. Once the war was over, Sam didn't hesitate to jump back into his old life, the call of adventure and stimulation strong. He turned to tutoring when he was twenty seven, discovering that magic was a universal language, and kids all over the world needed the skills of Potions and Transfiguration, though Charms was his favourite. He stuck at it for over a decade, tutoring rich kids in far off places, and getting paid handsomely for it. Sleeping with women and never settling down because where was the fun in that. He returned home often to visit Hannah, wanting to keep that bond with his only sibling, and she was always invited to whatever country he was in at the time, the siblings sharing some pretty memorable holidays together. Memories that Sam cherishes. Hannah settled down and had a family of her own, which made Sam incredibly happy, because he was great with kids, and knew he didn't have the staying power to find a wife and have his own tiny Sam's running around. He wasn't commitment material, everybody knew it, but he made a bloody fine Uncle! He found himself coming home more often once Linus and Charlotte were around. He liked to visit them and take them out for fun days, to make a fuss of them. Family had always been important to him, regardless of his butterfly nature. Two years ago on a trip home, he got sucked into a conversation with his brother in law, Neville, who worked at Hogwarts teaching Herbology. Neville mentioned an opening at the castle for a Charms Professor, and that he thought Sam would be brilliant for the job with his experience. Of course, only if Sam wanted it, but Neville would be happy to put in a good word for him. At forty two years of age, Sam had to stop and think. This would give him an opportunity to be around his family without hopping across the globe all of the time to do it. Maybe a stint of stability would do him good. Or drive him crazy, but he thought it was worth a shot. He applied for the job at Hogwarts with Neville's good recommendation, and was hired to begin working in the September of 2019. He's been working there for two years now, and quite likes it. He enjoys the fact that he gets an entire summer off to travel as he pleases, and he likes being able to see his nephew and niece around the castle (and help them get out of any scrapes they were in, or fudge Charlotte's Charms grades for her so she got E's when she should have gotten much less. Shhh.) He is a whirlwind of fun and intrigue, and makes every lesson as interesting as he can for his students, wanting to keep them stimulated and hooked so they don't get bored like he used to. He's been known to hold lessons out on the grounds when the weather is nice, and then there was that incident with the animated snowman in January. That had gotten a bit out of hand, but the kids had had fun! That is what is important to him, and he loves his job. _______________________________________________ D.O.B: 10th June 1977 Sign: Gemini Blood status: Half-blood Height: 5'9 Hometown: London, England Favourites: The colour red, Care of Magical Creatures, dogs, anything pasta, tropical weather, the smell of burning wood, the number twenty one.
