491 words Zaira Finnigan-Thomas hi here is my honest child who is the same age but a school year apart | It was that time of the year that Alexis' body just decided it didn't want to sleep any more. Sometimes it lasted a couple of days, although she had to drug herself to sleep for more than an hour a night when it had almost been three months without good sleep at one point. It wasn't anything new, nothing that she was overly concerned about, and she was just happy to sit in the dungeons and keep herself preoccupied on something. That evening was being filled with a comforting subject to mull over; muggle technology. There was a book she'd finally managed to get off the Muggle Studies professor that hadn't made it to the student library yet, and was again interested to see how wizards interpreted the grasp in which technology had seemed to enrapture muggles in the past few decades. Alexis' eyesight wasn't perfect, but she did well to curl up into the chair enough to use her knees to prop the book up to the moonlight so she could read; it was a little heavy, but nothing compared to some monstrous anthologies she'd flipped through in her sleepless nights. The language was familiar enough to her that she didn't really need to concentrate all that much on what the words were telling her, but her brain was struggling to try and come up with complete criticisms on subjects she knew she'd normally have at least the most basic of points to bring up against. What she hadn't quite noticed in the midsts of her concentrating on her reading was another in what appeared to be the exact same situation as her. When she saw something shift out of the corner of her eye, the brunette tore her eyes away from the incredibly dimly lit papers to see someone moving. They were being careful, but they looked to be comfortable enough in the environment they were moving around in. Another Slytherin, she deduced. She thought it odd that the other house member had not seen her, but then realised Alexis had equally not seen them. Her eyes had focused too much on the pages that peering out into the moonlit common room took her a little while to readjust to a different level. They'd just about made out the figure moving back towards her, a warm aroma of chocolate filling the air around them, and it gave her some time to try and work out who it was. Not enough time however, as it took Zaira sitting down in the chair opposite her for Alexis to finally twig who it was. She blamed the lack of sleep, and not the more obvious lack of light. "You're not very good at seeing in the dark, are you?" The brunette peered up as she readied her wand to catch the girl's drink if she were to drop it. Shattering anything at this time of night was not a good idea. |
