They say you look just like her. They say you act just like her. Sometimes you feel like all you did was replace her. Marasha Kathrine Bell. She was a legend in some circles. Remarkable with horses. One of the best trainers and riders they’d seen in the last fifty years. She even made it through the first Wizarding War alive, though not unscathed. She married a man she’d gone to school with who had interests different than her own but that interested her. Dirk Cresswell, ever a romantic, swept her off her feet, convincing her that he was the one for her. According to legend, theirs was a fairytale romance and it never really stopped being that way. They had three sons together, the whole time she kept training winged horses. Your father said something in her broke in March 1998 when your grandfather was murdered by Snatchers. She poured herself into working with the Order. Not yet two months after her husband fell, she followed him on the grounds of Hogwarts, protecting her boys. The Battle of Hogwarts claimed many lives. The Second Wizarding war claimed many more. Your family is forever touched by that chaos. It’s a chaos you don’t remember because you weren’t even born. At 16, your father could hardly live on his own and take care of his younger brothers. Grandpa and Grandma Bell raised the boys as they had raised their own. Your father enjoyed helping with the horses and began learning how to run the Stables after graduation. That’s how he met your mother. A winged-horse jockey, she liked the Bell stock best. They married a year later and had you. You’re not an only child though. The twins are a year younger. Then a sister came last. But you, oh child. You truly were a spinning image of your grandmother. Sometimes your grandparents wonder if it was the name choice or you always would have been just like her. But you run. You fall. You ride. You climb. You test the limits. You break bones. You eventually fly. If they can’t find you, the look to the barn and the pastures, because that is where you live most of the time. Your touch seems to calm the beasts even as they calm you. One of the stable hands, Aniki, had a son your age. You always viewed him like a brother. He was just as reckless as you and twice as big. Together, you got into so much trouble. Your fiery hair matched your fiery personalities. It came as no surprise to anyone when you both landed in Gryffindor. By third year, you were on the Quidditch team as a reserve Keeper. You took on full keeper in fifth year. Now in your final year, you know you want to follow your family’s business and so you work hard in Care of Magical creatures and your other classes. You are athletic and strong willed. There are teachers at the school who remember your mother. They remember the things she did in school, they remember that she didn’t sit for N.E.W.Ts because she was in a coma. They remember how well behaved she was and you must be just like her. Except you’re not. Not in many ways at least. Just because you look like her doesn’t mean you are her. Though there is nobody here to tell you this, you are more wild than she was. Less inhibited. Sometimes you quietly visit the memorial to those who died in the Battle for Hogwarts. You leave flowers for your grandmother and you like to think your grandparents are together somewhere. You know there are many students who lost someone in the war. You aren’t alone in your loss. At least it wasn’t your parents that died because you don’t know how you would live without them.
