Things haven't exactly gone the way Oliver Wood had planned when he was a young man at Hogwarts. He'd known all his life that he was going to go professional with Quidditch, and for a little while it seemed like his dreams might actually become a reality. He'd been signed on with Puddlemere United barely out of school, and was shaping up to be one of their best new players when the first season started - he was dedicated, passionate and with his whole life ahead of him.[break][break]
Things changed though when at age 19, he found out that his then on-again off-again girlfriend, Katie Bell, was pregnant with his child. Given his rise in status in the sporting world, it ended up all over the news, and the two went through a significant rocky period as they tried to balance young parenthood, the uncertainty of their newfound Quidditch careers as well as the media attention. They didn't want to get married - neither of them knew what to do or wanted to put their careers on hold for a family. All of it felt far too early. But then their baby girl, Adelaide was born, and the two finally took it as the push they needed to settle down and get to work. Oliver had always been a determined man, and once Adelaide had given him the purpose, he was determined to do this family thing right. Two years later they finally married and things started to look settled again - Oliver's star had continued to climb, as his stats improved and he moved up the ranks, and became one of the most sought after players in the league. Eventually came their son, 6 years or so after Adelaide - this time with a child they'd expected and tried for, all felt easy and natural and they welcomed the new addition happily.[break][break]
Then the worst happened - Oliver was seriously injured in a match, and it effectively killed his career. Quidditch - his first and deepest passion, was lost to him, and how swiftly that had been taken away was difficult to come to terms with, to say the least. He went into a deep depression that his family couldn't seem to help pull him out of no matter how hard they tried. In an effort to try and keep himself busy and motivated, he took a few administrative jobs in the Ministry in the Department of Magical Games and Sports, but he couldn't hold anything down. He turned to alcohol and potions to see him through most days, and he was sacked for slacking off. He was miserable and downright unpleasant to be around, taking out his anger and frustration on the people closest to him.[break][break]
It all ended up too much for Katie who ended up kicking him out. These were some dark years for Oliver, as he couldn't come to terms with all he had lost - and losing his family, he knew, was entirely his own fault. It took a lot of years of soul searching and self-improvement for Katie to take him back, but eventually he started to find his feet again. Now he's the manager for the Appleby Arrows, getting himself involved in the sport he loved and has missed so very much, and determined to see success for his team (despite having not ever imagined himself being a manager). With his influence, his daughter Adelaide has followed in his footsteps to becoming a Quidditch star - something that he is justly proud about. He sees his ability, and everything that he could have been, in her, and he's determined she will succeed where he did not. He got her the spot on her team and has begun to revamp the Arrows - they're now the underdogs everyone is looking at thanks to Oliver.[break][break]
