Indi rubbed at her elbows where the cold metal railing had dug into her flesh, she had leaned on it for so long. Had it been more than twenty minutes that she'd been up here? She thought not, but that was enough time to leave grooves in her skin, grooves of a different kind than the ones she had left along the back of the seventh year she had parted ways with less than an hour ago. A good time in a bathroom late at night was not foreign to her, and neither was drowning in her thoughts afterwards. Indi loved the stars, there was nothing more soothing to her than staring up at the night sky and being reminded of how tiny and significant she was in the grand scheme of things. Her life was so unimportant when you thought of how many planets and galaxies where out there. What did it matter who she slept with, or how many times she got drunk, she was a speck of stardust on a canvas bigger than anyone could even begin to imagine, and it made her feel better about her mistakes. It made her feel better about the huge lie she was living. It took the edge off of her guilt when she had been a complete bitch to someone she secretly thought was an alright person, something that happened daily. Yet it still wasn't enough to make her believe that pleasing her parents was also insignificant in that grand picture. Oh, no, that she had to uphold, at least until she was out of school and could figure out how to distance herself enough from her parents to be able to be more true to herself.
Real happiness was a long way off for her, but she could reach it in small moments. Moments like the bathroom earlier, and moments like now. She pulled a large woollen blanket from her school bag, her black tights falling out with it. They were slightly torn from what they had been through this evening, and she quickly stuffed them back in, making a mental note to repair them at some point tomorrow. Unrolling the blanket, she spread it out on the ground and sat down, using the excess to cover her bare legs, which appreciated the respite from the chilly night air. March in some places was an indicator of warmer weather, but in the middle of Scotland it was just another month of winter, another month of potential for snow, which meant towers at night were definitely not comfortable. Indi had packed a few things to bring with her, a magical flask that would fill with whatever beverage she fancied, and a chocolate bar, as well as the book she was required to read before Friday if she wanted to pass Transfiguration. It was only Tuesday and she was halfway through already. There was time to watch the stars for a while, first. Resting her head against the wall behind her, Indi's dark gaze drifted skyward and pulled her into a world of daydreams.

The worst of the winter weather was behind them, the creeping dew of Spring returning to the frosty evenings that no longer had room for a full bed of snow. Besides preferring sandy beaches and sunshine to igloos and snowballs, Linus was particularly ready for winter to wave its final farewell- it has been a particularly awful one. He’d exited, with too much ceremony, his two-year relationship with who he used to consider his best friend and most trusted partner. Feeling the tension of estrangement in everyday choices- things as simple as walking by the Ravenclaw table in the Great Hall without turning to greet her, avoiding the library because they used to study there together, not checking his quiv nearly as much because he knew that there wouldn’t be hexts sitting there waiting for him as often as they used to be.
He kept telling himself that it was the right thing to do, to move on and see what else was waiting for him in the great potential of whatever was to come. He would be graduating soon- he couldn’t be held back by a relationship. Scouts were beginning to show up to matches. Letters were coming in the mail. People were interested in his abilities. They wanted him to play for them. He couldn’t be the rookie on the team and the kid with a girlfriend still in Hogwarts. He continued to tell himself these things, that that’s what he truly believed, that he wasn’t sorely disappointed in the way everything had unraveled, that he didn’t miss her general presence around him every day, her smile and her hair and her laugh and her attitude.
Part of breaking up was getting used to doing things alone. Typically, if it was a particularly beautiful night and he wanted to see the skies, he would invite her along, and that would be that. When you have a partner, everything is just done in pairs. But now, single and readjusting to life without any accountability to anyone, he just went up to the Astronomy Tower alone, only to realize that what he thought he would be doing in solitude, he would be doing, strangely, in yet another pair.
“Fancy seeing you here,” he said as he ascended the trapdoor to the Astronomy Tower, seeing Indara Zabini half covered by a blanket, sitting between two telescopes affixed to the wall. Although a year younger, she was a Slytherin, and after nearly six years of sharing a common space, most upperclassmen were fully aware of one another. Quite honestly, there hadn’t been much time to get to know one another as teenagers- any time he would have spent chatting with girls that weren’t on his Quidditch team, he’d been busy chatting with the girl that had been his at the time. Thinking back, he wondered if it had appeared obnoxious instead of adorable. They’d been a pretty firm staple in the couple-dom of the Hogwarts zeitgeist.
“Mind if I join you? Looks like we had the same idea. I haven’t been up here in ages.”
Notes: Sort of a lame start…this is my first post with him, I’m sure he’ll brush up soon.
She heard him coming before she bothered to look for him. His footsteps on the staircase, on the stone floor as he approached her and she finally turned her gaze upon him. Linus Longbottom was not someone she had bothered to get to know over the years. He was the right sort, pure of blood, just like her parents required, but he was a Longbottom, and she had been told that that wasn't a good thing, either, despite blood status, so she had walked a careful path with him. She'd been friendly enough, he had never been on the receiving end of her bitchy act, but she'd always wished she could gt closer. He'd been with a Weasley for years, another name she was to try and avoid, and Indi had thought the pair were perfect. She was beautiful and smart, he was handsome and driven, yet she'd had to keep her distance. It was the story of her Hogwarts life, but she wasn't about to start crying over it now.
Well, actually, she might. Longbottom had beefed up something wicked over the past few months. She'd heard rumours that he and Weasley had split, but she didn't like to listen to idle gossip, it was usually a load of bullshit, and she took it all with a pinch of salt unless she had heard it from the horses mouth. "Hotbottom," she greeted, perfect smile flashing in his direction as she took him in with all of his new muscles and perfect posture If she hadn't already had her fun for the night, she'd have been all over that like a Niffler in a goldmine. "Pull up a wall," she invited with a pat of her hand on the blanket next to her. She had no idea why he had ventured to the Astronomy tower tonight, but she was happy to share the space for a while. She might even go as far as to offer him a square of her chocolate bar if he was lucky. If he so much as aimed half of a flirty look in her direction, she'd offer him a lot more, so long as nobody found out about it. Tucking herself into her blanket a bit tighter, Indi made sure there was room for Linus to fit beside her, and turned her doe eyes on him, expectantly.

Her smile was blinding, from being both straight and perfectly white and also from the reputation that preceded it. More than many boys at school slept while thinking about Indara Zabini, while only a few less fell actually slept with her, or so he was informed by the rumor mill, the personal experience of friends, and the vulgar scratchings on the walls of multiple loos. Loose or not, it didn’t matter to him; he was only beginning to readjust to not feeling guilty about considering the attractiveness and sexuality of another person. Who better than with sex goddess Zabini, who just called him hot? Were his cheeks not already nippy from the chilled air, he might have been exposed as blushing. He could feel the muscles in his chest and arms tightening as he sat down beside her in the most subtle attempts of an internal pep talk and appearing more impressive, but he was mostly hidden by his Slytherin Quidditch sweatshirt.
“Hotbottom? That’s a new one,” he said, almost lamely. To sit on the blanket properly, he had to scooch closer to her, else he’d be right on the stone floor. He looked sideways and down at her, she who was much closer than he’d been to any girl, or anyone, in quite some time. He could smell her faintly, a pleasant aroma of natural girlishness. Unsurprisingly, she was looking right back at him; she wasn’t known as someone who was particularly shy. “What are you doing up here? Stars?” He glanced upward, pleased by the shower above them, glad to see that the faint crescent of the moon was in their favor for sight-seeing. If he was being honest with himself, he hadn’t gone seeking stars that evening; rather, he was just looking for something to do that wasn’t sitting in his dorm, contemplating his existence and his choices.
He didn't need much encouragement to sit next to her, and the limited space on her blanket made it impossible for him to not brush up against her side. Indi welcomed it and leaned into him, eyes glued to his face as he lamely asked her if she was there to watch the stars. She pursed her lips. "No, I'm here to entice beautiful people into my trap," she replied, fingers toying with the hem of the blanket where it lay across her legs. "And it's working perfectly." She rested her head against his shoulder for effect, wondering if he would run a mile or stay and play. She didn't want to play, not like that, but teasing was allowed and a lot of fun. Flirting was harmless, besides, he didn't belong to anyone now, he was free to be flirted with all night and nobody could say a word about it.
His shoulder was harder than she had expected under her head and she moved a hand up as though to cushion her cheek a bit more, using the opportunity to feel his bicep as her palm trailed along his arm, finally coming to rest on his shoulder. "Break up bod?" she asked, smiling to herself. It was such a typical move. Break up with a pretty girl, try and make yourself feel better by losing weight, or working out, or dying your hair platinum blonde and growing butterfly wings in an attempt to make the ex jealous. It was silly, but it was common, and in Linus' case, it was worth it. He had definitely jumped up the hotness scale a point or two for his efforts. She wondered if he had his eye on someone else already. It didn't matter to Indi. She reached for her bag and pulled out her flask and her wand, touching the tip of her wand to it and feeling the weight of it increase as it filled up with hot chocolate. Opening the lid, she took a sip and smiled. Perfection. The flask hovered under Linus' nose as she held it out to him. "Want some?" she offered lazily, not bothering to tell him what was inside, though the chocolatey smell emanating from it was hard to ignore.

Even though he considered himself to be listening, it wasn’t until after she was done speaking that he realized he hadn’t heard a single word she’d said, his eyes fully consumed in the task of looking down the lines of her legs to where her fingers spun with the wool of her blanket, while simultaneously trying to appear as if that wasn’t exactly what he was doing. Lucy or not, one did not just ignore these sorts of things, especially if they were freshly seventeen years old; especially if they were freshly single.
He nodded with a shrug, deciphering ‘working perfectly’ as the last couple words of her choosing, admitting to himself that he agreed with her, or whatever it was she said. He shifted uncomfortably in place, feeling her shoulder from beneath the fabric of his sweater, attempting to position himself so that he neighbored her but didn’t rub against her, because that would be a super weird thing to do for someone he’d only casually conversed with in the common room. He could feel her confidence between them like a booming megaphone; it was attractive, and off-putting, and strange to experience when he’d been expecting to experience nothing at all. Yet here he was, nestled against her like a lost cat.
He nearly jolted when her hand ran up his arm, and his eyes lowered to look at it rest on his shoulder, having to go past her smile in order to properly focus. The only thing he could do was laugh uncomfortably. His body, while always in good Quidditch shape, had basically become the sole focus of his time and energies outside of the classroom and the pitch. She wasn’t the first person to notice, necessarily, but she was the first person to vocally address the reasoning (reasoning he was apt to avoid).
“Uh…maybe?” he said, unsure of the best way to approach the conversation topic that had been selected for him. Did Indara even know Lucy? “I…definitely have more time, I guess.” A quiet laugh was the only gesture that followed, his best reaction in situations where he was unsure of himself. Whether or not she perceived this, or even cared, was up for debate, as she’d already busied herself in fiddling with a flash that had appeared out of seemingly nowhere. When offered, he put his hand up, almost politely. “Ah…no, I’m….I’m ok. Thanks though.”
Was he not thirsty or did he judgmentally think that she might actually try to drug him? Did he really think that little of her? Or have that lack of bravery?
“What is it?” he asked, trying to appear casual as he licked his feet closer to his body so he could balance his elbows on his knees, glancing upward at the open sky again as he did, though now fully incapable of finding a constellation, much more focused on making sure he wasn’t doing anything weird, like breathing too loudly, or touching her without realizing it.
His awkwardness at her being playful was actually really cute, and she bit her cheek to stop her smile from being quite so big. He was definitely the type of guy she'd have enjoyed hanging out with if it wasn't going against her parents 'advice', she was missing out on so much by avoiding half of the castle. "Maybe!?" She said in quiet outrage. "Come on, if you're putting the work in, at least own it. You look great. Don't hide it." Indi was far from a fountain of wisdom and fabulous advice, but some things were just common sense. If she'd put that much effort into looking a million galleons, she'd be bragging to everyone with ears, come on! Modesty in a Slytherin was unusual, but not unheard of. Linus was clearly part of a special group who had full control of their egos. Indi didn't know whether to appreciate it, or be bewildered by it.
She pulled her flask back upon his stuttered rejection and took another sip, one eyebrow raising as he questioned what was in it. "The blood of my enemies," she joked darkly, before adding a quick shrug. "And a dash of chocolate to sweeten the deal." Why was he so uncomfortable? He'd been happy enough to sit with her, and then suddenly was acting liked a startled rabbit. "You can relax, you know, I'm not gonna pounce on you," she told him, leaning her head against the cold wall this time and watching the stars again. "I already filled my boots, you're safe." And if he was a complete prude, or a scaredy cat, he'd be running back down the stairs at her openness. Indi merely sipped her hot chocolate, satisfied with her setup for the night. It was late, but she didn't care about being discovered by a professor or prefect. This high up in the castle it would probably just be Rory Kirke, and he'd sit with her and make her fill her flask with firewhiskey. Trouble didn't scare her, she made her own rules and everyone who didn't like it could go to hell. Except Lafayete, he was easy on the eyes, he could chastise her all day long and she wouldn't mind one little bit.

The confidence that radiated off her olive skin was a force to be reckoned with, and he could sense it even though she was complimenting him and not herself. The way she spoke with ease indicated, not necessarily that she felt the exact same way about her body and self, but that she gave herself credit where credit was due. That, or she didn’t waste time with modesty. There was more than enough evidence that the latter was true. He began to feel a little silly for his sheepishness- he hadn’t been expecting to see her there, and the surprise of being alone with a girl in a place where students were known to go precisely to be alone with one another was daunting. If he’d been given that compliment in public or group, he would have flexed!
A laugh escaped at her joke, and once indicated to him, he was able to smell the faint aroma of chocolate wafting up from the mouthpiece of her flask. It smelled delicious, of course, but he continued to hold himself back. In the midst of a cut, extra sugar wouldn’t do anything for his body. Not that he wanted to continue to harp about that- it was totally lame to be that guy who talked about dieting.
Was it equally embarrassing to have been uptight about sitting next to her as it was to have her call him out on it? Still, being vocally assured that there was no underlying sexual tension existing in the nearly non-existent space between them was a relief, and he felt the tightness in his neck unravel slightly. Breaking up had been the right thing, but it didn’t mean he was ready to jump on the next opportunity. Especially someone as uproariously confident as Indara Zabini, who apparently had just done that with some other individual. Zabini!” he said, eyebrows raised, tilting his head down in a nod of respect. “People always say that the Astronomy Tower was for shagging, but to be honest, I was never quite sure.”
Indi only rolled her eyes at his outburst. As if he was shocked. Nobody at the castle should have been shocked by her admittance, or so Indi thought. As far as she was aware, her promiscuity was no secret, but she didn't keep track of who was or wasn't interested enough to keep up with her affairs. "Linus!" she returned in the same indignant tone he had used. Then she paused. "I'll admit, it wasn't the highlight of my night." She had definitely had better than what the bathroom had had to offer her tonight, but she wouldn't turn down a bit of fun, even if it did turn out to be less satisfying than she might have hoped. Her hot chocolate was a better buzz, though that might have been because the taste of it was fresh on her lips, and quickly working it's way into her bloodstream, happy hormones exploding like tiny fireworks around her body as she sat on the cold hard floor with a guy she didn't know all too well.
"You mean you and Weasley never did a little bump 'n' grind up here?" she asked, gyrating her hips a little for effect as she said the words, slightly incredulous herself, now. How could you be with someone for as long as they had been together and not explore sex in every inch of the castle together? Maybe they were both prudes and that's why they had broken up. A sexless relationship had to be boring as hell, and Indi couldn't imagine staying with someone with that element missing from every day life. Sure, she was a sucker for romance and being made to feel special in general, but without that raw chemistry, there was no point. "It's not half bad," she said, tilting her head at the railings where she had been leaning a short while ago. The railings that gave an intense thrill when you were sat on them, held in place by strong arms while you threw your head back, lost in the ecstasy of the moment, wind whipping your hair and your skin in all the right places. "You should try it before graduation," she said, shooting him a sultry smile and sipping from her flask again.

He liked the sound of his name jabbing off her tongue; as a new exercise, being along in dark places with sexy girls was not so bad. He was jumpy even in comfortable situations, so he was beginning to settle somewhere between simultaneous calm and the continuation of underlying nerves, latent static white-noising just beneath his feet and fingertips. It was as if he was nervous not to appear as low-key cool as possible. Like, oh yeah, it was just another evening hearing about a sixteen year old girl casually getting it before going for a stroll up the Astronomy Tower. Getting it and being unimpressed with it. Despite having been with Lucy for an eon (in Hogwarts terms, at least), Linus was still at a point in his life where getting it in any form, fashion, or circumstance was cause for internal celebration.
He was a seventeen year old boy- some things just were.
She wasn’t wrong- he and Lucy had never indulged themselves on the top of the Astronomy Tower. “Woah, woah, woah...maybe I’ve not done it up here…” He gestured around the tower as his words slowed, instantly regretting the choice to spontaneously prove himself. Super laid-back, Linus. Convince her you’re not a virgin- you’ll sound real, reaaaaaaaal cool. Because that’s what low-key cool guys did- make sure that confident girls knew they could hold their own. “Alright…what’s the most interesting place you’ve done it, then?” He raised his eyebrows, genuinely interested to hear. He was used to a rather comfortable situation in a four-poster, equally about connection as it was about pleasure. The world of the Indara Zabinis of Hogwarts had mostly only been accessible through Nate, who seemed to have an eye and an ear for a lifestyle that Linus only fantasized about on the off evening that he had a few heavy butterbeers.
“I don’t know how you do it, honestly,” he said, readjusting his back to the wall. “I don’t quite get off on the idea of being caught at any moment by, like, Peeves…or something.”
Notes: Poor Linus. He really is like…a super awkward bird.
The most interesting place she'd ever "done it" and the best place were very different, and Indi was glad he'd asked what he'd asked, because telling him that actually having sex in a bed was probably her favourite because it was just comfortable, and easier to explore fun things, was not what she wanted to be doing right now. He seemed impressed on some level, and she liked the feeling of being on top out of the two of them. She definitely had the upper hand in this conversation, and wouldn't be handing it over to Linus Longbottom any time soon if she could help it. She shrugged. "There may or may not have been an incident last year when myself and a guy who shall remain nameless were caught naked - mostly - in the Forbidden Forest by a pissed off centaur." Needless to say their fun had been cut short and shit all over. "That was pretty interesting. For the wrong reasons." She laughed and shook her head.
She sipped her hot chocolate as she thought about his words. He didn't like the thought of getting caught in the act. Wasn't that the thrilling part of it all? The possibility of being walked in on by some loser who would get the shock of their life was what made it all worth while. Maybe Indi was just a bit of an exhibitionist. Or a lot of one. She wouldn't deny it. "Moaning Myrtle is probably the worst," she said with a cackle at the thought of any of the castle ghosts stumbling upon such a scene. Peeves would likely fire rubber bands at your naked butt, which, fair enough, wasn't an appealing thought (to most), but having Myrtle wailing and complaining would without a doubt ruin the moment completely. "Come on, Mr Safe, you have to have some sort of naughty side. Everybody does..." She eyed him carefully, doe eyes trying to read him but getting nothing other than poorly hidden discomfort. "Or we could talk about something else. I don't mind pretending you're an angel for the night." She lowered her voice to a mutter. "Roleplay is my thing." Her face was buried in her cup, so she had no idea if he heard her mumbled words or not, but damn, her hot chocolate tasted good.
