Her father originally went under the name Elliot Fawley, but took up his wife Samantha's last name when they married. A 10th generation pureblood child tossed aside for falling in love with their next-door neighbour. He had already left the family home after finishing at Hogwarts when usually the children returned for a time, but he had already had enough by then. His life had been nothing but purity of magic his entire life, and meeting muggle-borns for the first time in his life changed all of that. He never cut magic out of his life entirely, it was almost impossible, but Elliot's day-to-day was much more muggle that wizard. It stayed that way as he met, fell in love, and subsequently married and moved in with the girl next door. Samantha Parker was an art tutor at a college in the next town, she loved taking care of indoor plants and watching television on a Friday night whilst marking. She had no idea there was anything bigger out there, and Elliot loved every bit of it. He did have to tell her about what he was and what he could do quite early on into their relationship, as he felt guilty for keeping it from her, but she only really asked about how it looked when he used it. Alexis had been a surprise a year into their marriage, but they welcomed her with open arms. Elliot knew that she might grow up to attend Hogwarts one day, but they both vowed to let her have a muggle childhood; no pressure to meet extended family, to learn spells faster than the other relatives, to despise anyone who didn't meet up to the family expectations... It was everything he never had. She is always grateful for this. Her fading memories of her pre-letter youth are full of wonder and laughter, with no bitterness to how late her parents told her about the world of magic. When her father told her a little bit more about his family, she understood. She had cried about it, and it was the only time he had cried with her. Her mother had tucked them both in as they lay exhausted on the sofa that night. Her mother only had one Grandfather left for Alexis to meet, and just like herself was an only child. He was always around helping out when Alexis was young, and he let her get away with probably more than he should have, but they had fun playing games together. On the other hand, Alexis only knows one aunt from her father's side of the family, and she hates the reason why. Her father's sister, Olivia, also hated the way pureblood families structured themselves, but she would never say anything to anyone other than him. Alexis met her a few times as she grew up, but they were never really close. Alexis' love of computing came from her father; he works for an IT support company that helps various businesses with their computing solutions, so she was surrounded by more gadgets and games when she probably should have been surrounded by toys, but the concentration needed to fix things lit a flame of passion in her that only learning various spells could barely top. Although, when she was allowed to use magic outside of school, she couldn't wait to join her father in using spells to help build and repair computers. It was just so much easier. Although she was also surrounded by art, and her mother tried to help her along the way, Alexis never really got the hang of it. She could colour in other people's pieces, and understood colour theory relatively well, but drawing out her own designs was never her strongest suit. They still bonded over terrible day-time tv and gardening, but Alexis worries that her mother thinks that because she's magic, just like her father, and enjoys computing, just like her father, that they don't have the same bond. It usually goes away when they play Scrabble together. FRIENDS Alexis was that kid that had whatever console you didn't have, and was always willing to have people over to come and play. However, her list of friends would probably only take up one A4 sized document, font size 18. She isn't unfriendly, but young kids aren't always keen on listening to the idiosyncrasies of how computers are put together, nor being told that they're boring to be around when they don't engage, even though she had been the one sitting in silence for the past 15 minutes. She managed to keep a few Muggle friends for a couple of years; they sat together in class and pretended to be their favourite characters at playtime, and sometimes that's all she wanted. She learnt to keep a little bit of a wall up, trying not to bore her friends with constant talk of technology and instead to keep her mouth shut. Of course, it just came out in other ways, such as telling bullies exactly what she thought of them and getting into trouble herself. She told half truths, or phrased what she thought into something that sounded positive on first parse. She only had one really close friend, but they lost contact when she was ‘going to a different high school’. The girls were both honest with each other, but neither took offence. They knew that what the other said was the truth, and if it was something bad then they tried their best to fix it. That's all Alexis wanted: tell the truth, since lies always got found out if you couldn't keep track of who you'd told what. Hogwarts was full of mysteries, and her Slytherin housemates always seemed to be honest with each other, just not with anyone else - especially if you weren't a pure-blood. By the time Alexis came up with something to say to a group of Slytherin 7th years that had spoken ill of her father, they had already gone to their next class, bored of waiting for a response. They soon got it in the form of a howler from their parents being disgusted with them for picking on someone from a pureblood family; sure, Fawley wasn't her family name but she knew there was a cousin or something somewhere in the castle that she could use to her advantage. To get straight to the point: if you're willing to speak the truth and wait patiently for a reply to an urgent hex, you'll have a friend who will plot your revenge with you. LOVERS As for lovers, Alexis has found that she isn't picky. If she finds someone physically attractive, and their personality doesn't clash with hers, she's probably had a crush on them at some point. Her romantic feelings are the only thoughts she won't outright confess, despite her honesty policy for everything else in her life. She learnt that lesson the hard way in 1st year when she told a 3rd year girl she was attracted to her as she was in the middle of a conversation with her boyfriend. Alexis realised that breaking up a 3 year relationship was not the most fun thing to be the cause of. She'll tell her friends who she thinks she likes, but they discuss the pros and cons of each person before either asking them out on a date or accepting their proposal. Her longest fling was with a Ravenclaw which lasted five months, and she had broken up with them when a kiss hadn't excited her as it used to - and said so immediately after. She’d been thinking about it for the whole duration of the kiss, whilst they had been thinking about taking things further. She analyses things too much, and starts to worry that the other person doesn’t like her as much as she likes them, or perhaps even the other way around. Her thoughts get tangled on occasion, going as far as sitting quietly through a whole date since she could never pick the right time to say anything. What Alexis is looking for, and what she doesn’t fully realise what she needs, is someone that will override all of her calculating and overthinking tendencies and bring her spontaneity. ENEMIES Alexis’ enemies list is yet another A4 sized document, but the font size is set to 5. They’re most likely people who have wronged other people in a way that affected either her or her friends. She doesn’t particularly treat them any differently, but she knows immediately not to trust them. Sure, they might tell the truth every now and again, but it takes more than one or two little beneficial facts thrown her way to get her to drop her guard again. She’s lost more friends than she’s lost enemies, to say the very least. The only person who could truly be considered her biggest enemy is the only one of her cousins she has had the pleasure to meet: James Fawley, a pureblood 6th year Slytherin who grates on her every nerve. They met initially by accident one year in Diagon Alley, and ever since the two have been scheming. Neither one dares to make the first move however, with Alexis not wanting to put her father under even more pressure from his family, and James just simply not wanting to deal with a blood traitor. Their conversations, as few and far between as they are, are always brief. They might even look somewhat cordial to those who don’t know the pair, but they both know the score. Corner - occasional study buddies [attr="class","nuprplots"] [attr="class","nuprimg] [attr="class","nuprname"] Finn Offman | 38 | Astronomy Professor | Ravenclaw [attr="class","nuprinfo"] [attr="class","nuprscroll"]FAMILY Coming from a small, entirely muggle family, Finn's magic came as a surprise to everyone. After his letter came from Hogwarts, there was something in him that wished someone else would come out from the woodworks to help guide him along; an estranged auntie perhaps, or even a neighbor of a cousin they often visited. For him, unfortunately, there was no-one. Later on in life, tracing back through his family tree, there were a few hints of magic in there but nothing close enough for him to contact. Besides, if they had found out about him first, then they should have been the ones to talk to him, and not the pain-in-the-arse method of the other way around. His parents were obliviated after his second summer back at home, as their curiosity about their son's magical abilities were becoming too experimental, and they had been discussing taking their notes to other muggles and breaking the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. Finn had initially been distraught over the decision to take himself completely out of his extended family's life, but age and time taught him that he had made the right decisions. FRIENDS With no biological family to speak of, Finn has instead a large network of friends. One of them he's known since his first year of Hogwarts, and another he may have only known for a couple of months. One might know more about him, but he still has the same amount of laughter and banter with both of them. His social tree branches out far and wide, with some offshoots probably never having even met people on an entirely separate branch, but he somewhat enjoys that. He can move from group to group to have different experiences, different conversations, and most importantly dodge different drama when it all gets a little too much. Sometimes it reminds him of the nature of boarding school drama a little too much, and he's supposed to have adult friends to avoid all of that. LOVERS [WIP] ENEMIES It takes a lot to really annoy Finn, with most of his anger being taken out on himself for the most part, but there are a couple of things that make people jump straight to the top of his 'completely ignore' list. First and foremost, those who continuously try to push the benefits of Astrology in every day life and how it has guided them as a person; this is closely followed by the people who say "Aren't Astrology and Astronomy just the same thing?". If they're willing to learn the difference and they actually understand it in the end, then they're fine. It's those who then just nod and go 'Ahh, you're a Leo then, very bold' that would end up just getting a silent smile and nod before being ignored for the rest of time. It's a little difficult when he's teaching younger students who still have to take his class but obviously have ambitions to delve deeper into Astrology, but he keeps up a professional front and still treats them equally. As best he can. TAGS Jean V. L. L. de Lafayette IV - [soon tm] Ezra A. Unfortunately, that means there's never much of a chance at trying to avoid any family gatherings for the rest of your life. Fred is thankfully someone who looks forward to seeing cousins he's only hexted a few times in the past couple of months since the last gathering. He wouldn't call himself close with every single member, since that would mean stretching himself out a little too thinly, but he at least has something to talk about with all of them - whether they like it or not. Whilst he has at least a neutral status with most of the extended family, there are some more complicated emotions within his immediate one - but whose family doesn't? With his name coming from someone dear to his father's heart, Fred was always going to be living up to some expectations, whether his father realised it or not. Relationships were strained for a few years before Hogwarts, but most things had settled down by the time he'd gotten on that train for the first time. They both have the same sense of humour and often play practical jokes on each other, but they still clash over some things. His mother was always supportive of whatever Fred wanted to do, but kept him in line as best she could from him completely going off course. Fred's love of Quiddich mainly comes from her, although he knows they both used to play at their time at Hogwarts, and he has higher aspirations of continuing when he finishes his final year - he only got so far due to threats of being banned from a broom forever if he dropped out any earlier, and thankfully could do well enough to coast through. FRIENDS If you have ever had an extended conversation with Fred Weasley and it ended well, he considers you one of his friends. If you said good morning to him in the corridor in-between classes, he'd smile and return the greeting but probably wouldn't stop to chat - he'd probably either be in a group of close friends or busy rushing from one crazy idea to the next. Or running from a teacher who found his father's latest invention on their desk. Being a part of the Hogwarts Quiddich team, their seeker at that, most people know who Fred is. He might not immediately remember everyone else, but just give him a moment. He's got a lot of names to remember, and he doesn't always get it right the first time. To be counted as one of Fred's closest friends, you'll have to excuse his impulsive past-curfew decisions to go and take photographs of the outskirts of the forbidden forest, or maybe even egg him on. You'll have to understand that when he proposes that you drown in the great lake to get out of class with a straight face that he expects you to laugh along with him a moment later. If you've managed to stick up for and stand by him since the day you first met, you might also have to excuse the occasional outbursts of anger that he expresses towards his family when they send him a thick letter by owl, and help him clean up the wreckage of his thrown about dormitory space. Fred has learned from the best for laughing and smiling day after day as part of a job, for only one thing to bring it all crashing down. LOVERS The Weasley's are a very open family, so when Fred first realised that he wasn't fantasising about the second year girls in the dorm across from him and instead about his dorm mates, there wasn't any animosity. At least, none said to his face, and that was enough for him. At first, he had a lot of trouble distinguishing the difference between wanting to be close friends with someone or wanting to be their boyfriend. Nothing a few misdirected kisses couldn't fix. He's had a few flings, with none of them ever lasting to the summer holidays, but a lot of the time he's been the only one completely sure of himself, where the other just appeared to be along for the ride. He always seems to be the dumped and not the dumper, but nine times out of then they've always stayed friends. Occasionally friends with benefits, but it was mostly for theirs. Fred prides himself in never having his heart broken. Sure, he's had crushes that didn't go anywhere, but he's never truly pined for someone who didn't like him back, nor had a relationship ended that he wanted to pursue. Just because it's never been broken doesn't mean it doesn't long for something that would make him feel like it would break if it did suddenly end. The fact that it's his final year in Hogwarts, as well as seeing a lot of couples seemingly settle down around him, is making him a little more cautious in who he dates - and it's pretty obvious to everyone, including himself. He worries he's giving off desperate vibes, but if he finished his final year without going on a single date instead of a hundred failed ones he wouldn't mind. At least, that's what he tells himself. ENEMIES Fred's enemies are mostly stuck up purebloods who continue to look down on the Weasley family for throwing away their heritage, even though the students who fling those insults were clearly not alive when that happened for the first time. Another portion of his 'enemies' are people he's accidentally offended, but they never spoke up about it so they've just never spoken again. The biggest thing that would get him to be angry at you would be to personally insult a member of his family, his friends or most obviously himself. He's always happy to try and get along with people, but if they're antagonistic to begin with he pretty much loses the will to try with them.
