34-42 | DIVINATION Professor | Yvonne Strahovski [flex?]
Finn Offman teaches Astronomy, and this is the only teacher he under no circumstances can get along with - the Divination professor. Ever since he arrived at Hogwarts as a student teacher, she was there. When their eyes met for the first time in 2006, he might have felt his heart thud against his chest but it soon slot itself firmly into place when the professor he was shadowing introduced her. The Divination professor. When she found out about his very brief crush a few years later, it’s something that he’s never managed to live down.
Whilst Finn would sit down to plan all of his lessons to make sure that they’re not completely dry but contains everything his students need to pass, her lessons are guided by the stars. At the end of the year, she manages to tick off everything she needs to teach her students and in enough detail and time, so it pleases her. She can definitely hold her own in an argument and is stubborn enough to not back down, even if somewhere along the line she may have been swayed for a moment. She’s not completely up in the clouds, and can hunker down her roots when needs be.
So there’s two different ways this relationship can go and I’m open to both:
1. Hate → Friends - they used to butt heads every time they even glanced at each other down a long corridor, but after enough arguments in the middle of suddenly silent staff rooms they were forced to at least try to act amicable. Their attempts mostly fail at first, but once she manages to get him talking about coffee instead of cosmology they find that there’s more to them than just their main profession.
Love/Hate relationship? Because man do I have a soft spot for people who make out whilst they’re in the middle of a debate. Just because they teach completely opposite subjects doesn’t mean they don’t have some other common ground - she’s not as preachy about Astrology as her profession makes her out to be, and enjoys sitting under the stars and listening to Finn’s rambling about some comet shower that’s due to start any minute with a hot mug of coffee, but suddenly she distracts him by saying that because it’s happening in the middle of August that it will cause some major changes in the Leo’s in their life and their romantic date night turns into a debate over how stars don’t affect people because of their birth, which soon turns into them both missing the comets because they’re too focused on each others bodies… And then they wake up and either ignore the fight the night before or don’t speak to each other until after last period.
Alexis Parker ’s number one enemy: James Fawley. Born to Alexis’ father’s brother, they are first cousins but they did not know of each other’s existence until she was getting ready to go to Hogwarts for the first time, and him for the second, in the middle of Diagon Alley. James’ mother, father, elder sister and baby brother were all there, and all of their eyes were pinned on the blood traitor and his spawn. For James, magic and remaining loyal to the family who had given you the privilege of such a gift was his entire upbringing. He had met many different pureblood families growing up, and had heard of those who had been cast out, but to actually see them sickened him. They were different from normal mudbloods and half-bloods. They could have been yet another branch of the family he had to memorise names and faces of, but instead they were the furthest away. If it was anyone else, it could have been some touching family reunion. Instead, it was hushed whispers and pointing, and purposely walking past them with heads held high and gazes obviously averted.
When he heard her name again, it was during the sorting ceremony. His hairs stood on end when Alexis was sorted into Slytherin. He was angered by each non-pureblood that wormed their way into such a prestigious house, joining in the snide comments with his friends as they came to sit down, but something about her taking a seat with no shame about it. She was even… smiling? Had she no shame? He wanted to object, to get her to be resorted, but the news would quickly get back to his mother that he had been caught raising a fuss over someone who didn’t exist on their family tree. Instead, he managed to quash those emotions and just make vague comments with his peers about her just like he had done with everyone else.
To talk about James without involving Alexis; he’s one of the youngest in his year group, and because of this he has a bit of a complex. Not that he’d admit this of course, but when everyone’s birthdays come and go throughout the year and everyone is already too excited about going back to Hogwarts the next day to celebrate, his birthday is a little bit of a sore spot for him. He is almost the stereotypical pureblood purist Slytherin that every other house talks about, but despite knowing a lot of different people from various different family trees he only keeps a small group of friends. All purebloods, of course. Other parts of his general being such as hobbies, interests, and classes are all up to whoever claims him.
Why do I want someone who Alexis pretty much despises? Because there’s a part of Alexis’ personality that surrounding her in people she likes/like her won’t bring out a bit of her personality that I enjoy, plus ‘sibling’ rivalry is great. Also it would be interesting to have some sort of family emergency that shakes James and, despite their rocky relationship and family background, they are still technically related and she manages to see him as just someone who is struggling and at least tries to help out? Maybe throughout Hogwarts James is learning that blood purity isn’t the be all and end all of everything like his parents taught him?
