They're so close in age that sometimes they feel like twins. Their childhood so removed from the rest of their community, even their cousins and actual blood relations, that it feels like they're in their own bubble. Impenetrable. Until suddenly its not.
The bubble bursts.
No, that's not fair. That implies that it happened in a sudden blow out. That one minute everything was right, and the next minute it wasn't. In reality it was much more gradual than that. She can't pin point it, and she doubts he can either but... there's a rift. There's a rift and she's not sure how to fix it.

Her response, as with everything that has ever happened to her, is to throw herself into her social life. Surround herself with good people. When she was younger that almost exclusively was just him but once she went to Hogwarts... well honestly it could be anybody.
She likes parties. Likes to dance and chat and laugh and... dabble with other things if there's something going. She was not put on this world to sit still and watch it fly by. She was put on this world to make people laugh, and she does so in the most efficient manner possible at all costs.
And sometimes he's there. And everything feels normal for the evening. And then the morning comes and there's no aimless chat like there always used to be and she feels a little bit empty inside.

She cheers just as loudly as ever at all his quidditch matches. That's a solid fact that will never change.
Her friends don't even gripe that she's supporting Gryffindor even when a win for them in this match may actually harm Slytherin's chances. If her house is playing, she's a green, but if they're not and he is... well then she's got to be a red. For at least the length of the game.
Flying has never been her thing, but he always loved it. It shows on his face as he plays and every now and then, when he's close enough that she can count his freckles, she's overwhelmed with so much emotion over it she just wants to cry.
(Her period must be coming, that's what she tells herself.)

If she thinks about it. Like, really sits and thinks about it, it probably started a few years ago. Probably not long after he came out which is unfortunate because that makes it seem like she has an issue with his sexuality - and she doesn't. Not at all. In fact, she's so proud she could burst. So proud that he finally could be who he wants be. Present the truest version of himself to the world.
But maybe that's what started it. Not hiding one part of himself and being truly on display making him assess the rest of his life. And maybe she's somehow a barrier to something? Or represents something he doesn't want to think about? So now there's a distance. And its not all his fault, she doesn't think that for a second. Because she hasn't pried or tried to talk to him about it either and has just.. accepted this less prominent position in each others lives.
Maybe she hasn't because she doesn't want it to get worse. Right now, she's lost a best friend, but at least she still has a brother.
