Board meetings at Hogwarts were typically easy-goings for Valentino. There were many, many wizards and witches much older than he was who chiefly lead decisions of primary importance. The way the budget fell, what areas of the castle needed renovation, which professors were up for tenure- it was all very interesting to him, but none the reason he had accepted the position. What made the quarterly, day-long meetings and the high price of ‘encouraged’ donations worthwhile was the proximity in which it placed him to students, from which he was fond of noticing the best and brightest.
He’d long been pining to adjunct a seminar on entrepreneurship, but there was still a hesitancy within him that kept him from asking for it. The fact that he was able to use his mother’s personal wealth in order to get started was a major factor in his success- could he teach others the ways to do get off the ground without assets? He thought so, but the idea of being called out as a hypocrite in front of a bunch of students with their wits about them was one of the few things that gave him legitimate pangs of anxiety. There was a difference between students with good grades and students with true perspective and guile. Very few possessed them both.
He was briefed by whoever he asked- anyone interesting this term? Ezra was a fountain, but he would chat about pretty much anything, and it was beyond Val to assume that those conversations could be herded in any particular direction, much preferring to follow his professor’s lead on pleasantries and beyond. Many professors were happy to name their observations, from any year as he encouraged. There were a few names exchanged too frequently to forget, as one Dominique Weasley continued to be.
She was a seventh year and had been a stand out for some time, despite only organizing and establishing her club recently. It was a venture he was most interested in, as was any venture that was something different, slightly off of the normal, and headed by someone with a true passion. Hextra would continue on whether or not he was as active now, whether on its upward trajectory or perhaps petering to a plateau, and even though he hadn’t made the move to be less involved as he continued to hope he would, he liked to think it was not far off. New ventures for investing seemed like ripe fruit fully prepared to pick.
“May I join you?” he asked in a low voice, so as not to completely startle her. “My name is Valentino- or Val. You are Dominique?” The library was the first place that made sense to try- if she hadn’t been here, which she was, he may have gone down to the Great Hall and waited it out. He held out a hand in her direction, glad that they were between some shelves a little farther from the majority of sitting tables. “I’m a trustee on the Hogwarts Board- I hope it’s alright that I introduce myself. I’ve been encouraged by your professors to say hello to you.” He smiled warmly, but did not approach much farther than his hand, allowing her some space to choose to step forward and shake it or not.

notes: He’s like a completely different person talking to students. A lot warmer and smoother. Whereas at work his mind is going a thousand miles an hour and he’s just whirring and thinking and barking. So this will be fun.
